Servo feeder or mechanical feeder?

There are two ways to feed strip into a press line. The difference is not only price: part tolerance, die change time and line flexibility all change.

Choose a servo feeder if

  • Your part tolerance is tight and must hold across a production run
  • You change several dies within a shift
  • You use pilot pins or run at high stroke rates

A mechanical feeder is enough if

  • You run long series with a single die
  • Pitch tolerance is loose and surface is not critical
  • Budget constraints drive the initial investment

In short

As die variety grows, the setup and scrap savings of a servo feeder close the initial price gap. If you produce one part in long runs, a mechanical feeder is still a reasonable choice.
